ROCKET (Regional Collaboration on Key Enabling Technologies) promotes cooperation between business and science in the German-Dutch border region between the North Sea and Niederrhein to strengthen research, technological development and innovation.

Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) such as nanotechnology, microsystems technology, micro- and nanoelectronics, innovative materials and photonics form the technological basis for the answers to the global challenges.

This project is financially supported under the INTERREG program of the European Union and the INTERREG partners. The project is ‘partly open’, meaning there is budget available for new innovation (sub)projects to be developed during the duration of the project (3 years).

Aim of the project

  • Construction, promotion and implementation of cross-border innovation projects in the application areas of health, energy and production
  • Evaluation of project ideas by feasibility studies
  • Accelerating the transfer of knowledge to the development of 40 marketable, KET based products
  • Construction of a cross-border network with a large pool hightech SMEs
  • Increasing the competitiveness of SMEs, promoting growth and creation of jobs


ROCKET-subsidy area

At least two partners must be involved in the cross-border feasibility studies.

Project partners are mainly small and medium-sized companies, linked with research institutions. Overall up to 80 partners in innovation projects and feasibility studies will be involved.

The ROCKET project focuses on the border region German-Netherlands. As personal contacts and consultants there are five regional coordinators (Oost NV, BCS, Kennispark Twente, NMWP.NRW and innos - Sperlich GmbH), in order to meet the individual requirements of the project partners the best possible way.



Pioneer Innovation Projects

ROCKET starts of with four so called ‘Pioneer Innovation Projects’. In the overal ROCKET project, there is room for 4 to 6 more projects to be developed the coming 3 years.

Sail Pro (Production)

The development of a laser-assisted procedure production process of nanoparticles and their potential applications in a variety of matrices is the focus of the project "SAIL PRO" (Safe and Amplied Industrial Laser PROcessing).

Antibacterial material (Health & Production)

New Antibacterial materials on the basis of ceramic offer a wide range of applications in consumer products as well as in clinical use.

Super Surf (energy & production)

Fuel cells are one of the energy converters of the future. The production requires a reliable quality control of the components. The development of 2D and 3D measurement system for optical inspection is at the center point of the project "Super Surf" (Surface measurement systems for fuel cell production).

Fast-Pharma (health, lead = Qmicro)

The production of highly specialized pharmaceuticals for the "Molecular Imaging" places high demands on the quality control of these products. In the project "Fast Pharma" a compact analyzer is developed to reduce the resulting analysis times and increasing process control (Fast microGC analyzer for pharmaceutical applications).
